No one likes toxic teammates, and nobody hires these individuals out of the gate.
They usually first come across as charming, charismatic, and full of confidence - the toxic 3 as I say!
Yet as we know, they eventually show their true colors. In the meantime, though, it's helpful to identify a few team symptoms.
Where once you might have had a team focused mentality and attitude, all of sudden you start to have employees which become me focused and are more concerned about their individual gains vs the team gains.
Gossip, water cooler talk, and cliques oh my. If you notice these among your team, act fast, because a quick course adjustment needs to be set in motion.
Another obvious sign of a toxic team and/or team member is when you can't seem to keep anyone around. Even though the younger generations aren't staying as long, you still want to pay attention to which department is losing team members.
Remember your team is watching how you manage these employees, and your influence depends on how you handle these difficult situations.
Toxic employees don't live in a vacuum, your accountability or lack of accountability absolutely affects the culture!
